At least 18 people were killed after a mini-truck met with an accident in Nuwakot district on Friday evening, police said. According to police 15 of the deceased are male and 3 are female. Police said that 16 people, who were injured in the accident, have been sent to Kathmandu for medical treatment.
The truck heading for Sisiphu from Kimtang fell off a cliff into the river at Samundratar. Locals said around 40-45 people were aboard the ill-fated truck when the tragedy struck. A team comprising security personnel from Nepal Police and Nepal Army reached the incident site for the rescue operation.
