State govt will take up Bayyaram Steel Plant, announces KCR

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday took the responsibility of setting up the much-awaited Steel Plant at Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district, without waiting for the Central government’s assistance. He said the iron ore mining will be taken up by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and also assured to open a new underground mine at Yellandu.

He stated that despite repeated requests, the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre was not ready to implement the promise made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

“The Central government is seeking several incentives from the State government for starting the Steel Plant. If that is the case, why do we need the Centre? Rather, the TRS government will take up the project after the elections,” he declared.

Participating in the Praja Ashirwada Sabha meeting at Yellandu on Friday afternoon, Chandrashekhar Rao also rubbished the allegations of Congress President Rahul Gandhi who claimed that the TRS government had redesigned several irrigation projects with an eye on commissions from the contractors.
