Team Abu Dhabi’s Shaun Torrente put up a great performance to emerge the winner in the UIM F1H2O Grand Prix of India held in Amaravati, the emerging capital of Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday. Mr. Torrente, who maintained a lead from the word go, clinched his seventh career-victory and moved to the top of the championship standings.
The second place went to the Emirates Racing’s Marit Stromoy, the only woman racer. Almost immediately after the final round began, CTIC F1Shenxhen China’s Philippe Chiappe crashed heavily on the start lap at the very first turn, ending his title hopes while defending champion Alex Carella’s bid ended almost before it began, retiring on the same lap due to technical issues.
The local favourite Jonas Andersson, the Team Amaravati driver, had to opt out after maintaining the fourth position in 33 of the 44-lap race due to a technical glitch in his powerboat.
