First Robotic Rehab Hospital in Telangana & AP opens

The first robotic rehabilitation hospital of twin states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will commence operations from Sunday at Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. The centre named New Life Rehab Hospital features first-of-its-kind latest devices using advanced robotics that perform a plethora of robotized therapeutic treatments on patients, leveraging both pace and effectiveness of treatment.  New Life Rehab Hospital is a branch of New Life Multispecialty Hospital situated at Chaderghat.

According to Managing Director Dr. Mohammed Masood Ali Khan, the New Life Robotic Rehab Hospital specializes in rehabilitation and recovery treatment for patients who have suffered major multiple traumas, brain injuries, Ischemic stroke, intracranial bleeds, or have undergone neuro or spinal surgeries, etc. Senior citizens suffering from various Geriatric disorders or undergoing joint replacements and major surgeries also require rehabilitation to recover, and redefine their strengths to normalcy.

“Our vision is to enable our patients to accomplish maximum level of fulfilment in the aspects of physical, emotional and cognition”, he said.

Addressing a media conference on Friday afternoon, Dr. Masood said “Precision treatment controlled by advanced robotic arms, limbs and other equipment can catalyse recovery time, reduce treatment overheads significantly and leverage mechanical support to affected body parts, which is not easily possible with accuracy and iteration through conventional methods.”

The advantage with robotic physiotherapy treatments is that robots can adapt to any individual’s state very easily, provide specific feedback to patients to enhance their movements, and also record movement data such as position, velocity and force / torque of joints.

This can significantly compensate for the physical capabilities of the patients and “treatment can be completed in nearly 50% shorter span than conventional physiotherapy”. Because of precision controlled robots that can increase the number of repetitions, a therapy that would typically last for 6 months can be easily completed in 3 months duration, he said.

For instance, persons suffering with gait abnormality, or disorders caused by stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, etc. can be treated using WalkBot –  the Gait Training Robot. This robot will control individual body parts, enabling patient to walk for therapy without or with less help.

Similarly, Cardiovascular or pulmonary issues, Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron diseases, polyneuropathy, or muscular dystrophy, and other medical and age related debilitating conditions can be treated with these machines.

While a mechanized bed with robotic arms can help in recovery of the lower body, another exoskeletal device can assist patients with a variety of treatment procedures. A trained specialist controls the ergonomically designed robotic arms that help patients with strained health exercise effectively to a programmed number of flawless repetitions. Similar machines are available for geriatric treatment.

Equipped with the latest in Neuro Ortho and Geriatric Rehabilitation, the hospital uses robotic devices to treat patients and maximise the effectiveness of the treatment. An expert panel of specialists from various fields including rehabilitation physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language therapist and rehabilitation psychologists work together to deliver uncompromising healthcare to the patients, it was announced.

Many patients with disabilities, and those recovering from physical infractions in a post-accident scenario, require Rehabilitation – one of the most important phases of recovery for patients.

Intensive Rehabilitation, Intensive in-patient programs, post-acute care, post hospitalization rehab, geriatric care, comprehensive outpatient rehab facilities, etc. are offered in New Life Rehab Hospital.
