At least 15 people were killed late last night after a compound wall collapsed at a construction site in Pune’s Kondhwa area in Maharashtra. All 17, belonging to families of labourers, were housed in temporary shelters built at the site near Talab Masjid. During the search and rescue operations, three persons were rescued and they are being treated at a hospital.
Most of the deceased are from Bihar and West Bengal. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed Pune collector to conduct an in-depth inquiry. A compensation of 4 lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those killed has been announced from the National Disaster Relief Fund.
