Krishna River Management Board today held a key meeting on Gazette notification issued by centre on bringing the purview of the irrigation projects in the two states. The two Telugu States are warring on the river water share, power production and allocation and construction of irrigation projects which have no permissions as per norms. Keeping this in view the Centre issued a Gazette Notification and now the board is to discuss to take opinion of the two states to implement it from next month.
The officials of the both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States attended the key meeting chaired by board member Pillai in Hyderabad here. The Gazette notification was deferred by the Telangana government and asked to bring only old projects under its purview.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today urged that the Centre postpone the Gazette Notification. He also appealed to union water resources Minister Gajendera Shekhawat to postpone it and consider only old projects before bifurcation be brought into its purview. The state government also sought for judicious share of water from the rivers and power generation at Hydel projects and equal quantity allocation at Nagarjuna Sagar to both the states. KCR has met with the union water resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in his residence in Delhi. He gave a memorandum and submitted details of the projects to him and asked for justice to Telangana state.
KCR urged the minister for his intervention to stop illegal construction of irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh. The chief minister opposed the Gazette notification for its extended purview including all the projects in both Krishna and Godavari boards. He urged that only joint projects can be under the boards to decide and Rayalaseema lift irrigation project should be stopped to protect Palamur– Ranga Reddy project.
He urged the union minister to give final sanction to complete the Palamur–Ranga Reddy lift project.
The old projects cannot go under the gazette notification and it has to be stopped, KCR said. However the officials of the two states gave their version on the same at the key meeting today. The Gazette notification can include the previous projects and not those which were started after bifurcation and the boards can take old projects into its purview.
